With the help of CSS it is possible to hide certain HTML elements and you also can show hidden elements on the fly with the help of javascript or with some other scripting language.

In the CSS there are two ways to hide different  HTML elements. One is by using visibility property and other is by using display property of CSS. In case of visibility:hidden the element that is hidden take up the space while in case of display:none it will not take space. Here are example of both properties.
